CTDOT CONNECT DDE GUIDE VOLUME 1 - OVERVIEW

Section 4 - Getting Started

This volume covers the basics of the DDE; more in-depth processes and *.dgn file uses are covered in subsequent volumes.

» The CONNECTION Client

Users must be logged into the CONNECTION Client to obtain application licenses for CONNECT Edition Bentley products. The CONNECTION Client is the user’s gateway to Bentley's cloud services, portals and analytics. By signing into the CONNECTION Client, users can find their company's projects, track their time, explore analytics, download software updates, receive relevant notifications and access other features available to them as a Bentley user. Signing into the CONNECTION Client is a prerequisite step in the DDE workflow, as Bentley products cannot function without it. Users will need to request a username and password from Bentley (if they do not already have one) on this webpage.

When starting a new CONNECT project DO NOT copy over or open any *.dgn files that were used in an old V8i software, InRoads SS2 or InRoads SS4 (old OpenRoads) projects; these files do not use the correct geospatial settings and opening them in CONNECT may introduce compatibility issues.

» What is a WorkSet and how do I create one?

For a detailed description of a WorkSet go to Volume 1 -Section 3 - Configuration and WorkSets.

Check here to verify if a WorkSet configuration and number have already been created for a project on CTDOT's COMPASS site. Otherwise, use this form to request a new CAD WorkSet configuration and project number.

New CAD WorkSet Request

AEC Applications will:

  • Set the configurations on the SharePoint/COMPASS project site and integrate the project's contract sheet title block
  • Create a connected project on Bentley’s SharePoint site (CTDOT Bentley Cloud Services)

Please note: Consultant Engineers with a manual install must maintain the location of their own WorkSets; a project template is delivered with the DDE for consultant engineers. Consultants will copy this template to create CTDOT WorkSets (projects). Visit  Volume 1 - M.1.2 Creating a WorkSet for detailed instructions.
