The DMV offers in-person, appointment-only services for specific transactions. Please review the services below to make a specific testing appointment—be sure to select the correct appointment type to avoid a cancellation.

Know before you go
  • A valid email and/or mobile phone number is required to create an appointment.
  • Appointments are only valid for the selected service.
  • The DMV will only conduct appointments or transactions for one person at a time.
  • You may need multiple appointments to handle multiple transactions or issues.
  • Be sure to double-check the acceptable forms of identification and ensure you have all required documents prior to starting the application process.

To request a road test appointment (for commercial drivers), email the required form to the DMV

GET FORM
Step 1: Pass a written commercial drivers knowledge test and get a commercial learner’s permit (CLP). The CLP needs to be held for 14 days prior to taking an on-the-road driving test. Learn more about commercial learner’s permits. 

Step 2: Verify that you have completed the entry-level driver training (ELDT). Learn more about ELDT.

Step 3: Complete the required form (above).

Step 4: E-mail the required form to the Driver Education and Testing Unit at dmv-detu@ct.gov.

Step 5: The DMV will confirm your appointment within 3 business days.

You may book an appointment online to complete the following CDL-related services at a DMV office:

  • Schedule appointment to upgrade CDL or add an endorsement (must have already passed all CDL knowledge and road tests)
  • Repay your CDL road test fee
  • CDL renewal
Please note:
Hazmat endorsement renewals are processed at the Bridgeport, Danbury, Enfield, Hamden, Norwalk, Old Saybrook, Waterbury, Wethersfield, and Willimantic DMV offices.
Dealerships may use the DMV’s online system to register their customer’s new vehicle. These appointments are ONLY for dealerships that need to register their customers’ vehicles, and there are no in-person visits to the Dealer and Repairer Unit. 
Please note:
Dealerships and companies offering titling services can have up to two appointments scheduled simultaneously. Once appointments are completed, new ones can be scheduled accordingly.

Make an appointment at a Nutmeg State Financial Credit Union office (limited services)

The AAA and Nutmeg State Financial Credit Union offices are express offices that offer limited services. Before making an appointment at these locations, please review the services offered at these locations.

Note: No other services are provided at these offices. AAA offices and Nutmeg State Financial Credit Union offices charge a convenience fee per DMV transaction. At AAA offices, the fee is $6 for AAA members and $8 for non-AAA members per DMV transaction. At Nutmeg State Financial Credit Union offices, the fee is $8 per DMV transaction, and the fee is waived for credit union members.
