If you accidentally lose your learner’s permit, you’ll want to immediately get another copy, because you cannot drive without it.

The online option may be your best option if your Connecticut learner’s permit is lost, stolen, or damaged/destroyed.


However, you can’t request a duplicate learner’s permit online if:

How to request a duplicate learner’s permit online

Step 1: Gather what you’ll need
  • Your first and last name exactly as it appears on your current learner's permit
  • Your date of birth
  • Your street address
  • Your learner's permit number
  • Your Social Security Number
  • A credit or debit card

If your name or address has changed since you got your permit, there are additional steps to update your address on your new permit. Learn how to change your address.

How to

Step 1: Print and complete the required form
Complete an application for Duplicate of Current Driver's License or Permit (Form 1-B).
 
Step 2: Make an appointment

When replacing a learner's permit, please make an appointment at a DMV office. Commercial learner's permit, motorcycle learner’s permit and drive-only learner’s permit can only be replaced in a DMV office.
 
Appointments for our DMV Express locations can be made online. Please contact your local DMV express office, AAA location or Nutmeg State Financial Credit Union Locations. Note: these locations may charge a convenience fee up to $8 per DMV transaction.

Step 3: Get your learner's permit in the mail

You will get a temporary permit at your appointment. Your permanent duplicate learner's permit will arrive in the mail at the mailing address on file with the DMV within 30 days. If you have mail forwarding, you will NOT receive your new learner's permit.
