CT DMV WARNS RESIDENTS ABOUT FRAUDULENT “UNPAID TRAFFIC CITATION” TEXT SCAM
WETHERSFIELD, Conn. -- The Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is warning residents about a scam text message circulating that falsely claims recipients have an unpaid traffic citation and must pay immediately to avoid penalties.
The fraudulent message states that an “unresolved traffic citation” will result in vehicle registration suspension, additional fees, and possible court action if payment is not made by a specific deadline. It then directs recipients to click a suspicious payment link.
This message is not legitimate and was not sent by the Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles. The DMV does not send payment demands through text message.
If you receive one of these messages:
- Do not click the link.
- Do not reply.
- Delete the text message.
- Report the scam to the Federal Trade Commission at reportfraud.ftc.gov.
