DEPARTMENT OF MOTOR VEHICLES LAUNCHES NEW ONLINE SERVICE FOR BOAT OWNERS

Connecticut Residents Can Now Renew Their Boat Registration Online

WETHERSFIELD, CT –  The Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) launched a new online service to allow Connecticut residents to renew their boat registration through the agency’s web portal at ct.gov/dmv.    

Boat owners with a Connecticut driver’s license or non-driver ID card are eligible to renew online. Customers can expect to receive their final document and decal in the mail within 7-10 days.  

"The DMV has continued to show that when an agency puts in the work to innovate and improve critical services, an amazing amount of change can happen, and that's what this administration is about," said Governor Lamont. "This is a great step forward in our broader effort to modernize State government, and to make sure our residents spend less time with us, and more time with their families, growing their businesses, and stimulating the economy." 

This new online service is in addition to the announcements made earlier this year that Connecticut residents now have the ability online to:

• Renew your driver’s license or non-driver ID
• Request your duplicate of a driver’s license or non-driver ID
• Change your address on file with DMV
• Request your driving history

“This new online service is the latest step DMV has taken to modernize our services and processes to better serve our customers,” DMV Commissioner Sibongile Magubane said.  “Our focus remains on Governor Lamont’s priority to make interacting with government faster, easier and more accessible.”

"I want to thank our teams at the DMV and CT Digital Services for their hard work and commitment to modernizing state government in a way that our residents expect and deserve.”

“We are continuing to improve how customers interact with DMV,” DMV Deputy Commissioner Tony Guerrera said. “Allowing customers to renew their boat registration online in less than seven minutes is another example of DMV offering customers the opportunity to get out of line and go online.”  

Customers do not need the DMV’s boat registration renewal invitation to complete the transaction online.  There are approximately 82,000 registered boats in Connecticut.   

DMV has processed in excess of 131,000 online transactions since November 2020. Most transactions can be completed in under seven minutes.
