CT DMV UNVEILS A NEW LICENSE PLATE HONORING THE 65TH INFANTRY REGIMENT OF THE U.S. ARMY
The Borinqueneers License Plate is Now Available

WETHERSFIELD, CT - The Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles along with the Hispanic-American Veterans of Connecticut, Inc. announced the release of a new specialty license plate honoring the distinguished legacy of the 65th Infantry Regiment of the U.S. Army, nicknamed the Borinqueneers.

“Connecticut is proud to honor United States veterans through a series of commemorative license plates, and this new plate honoring the Borinqueneers celebrates this unit's unique place in American history, particularly during armed conflicts in which hundreds of its members gave their lives in service to our country. We thank the Borinqueneers for their service and contributions to the U.S. Army,” said Governor Ned Lamont.

“Connecticut proudly pays tribute to the bravery, sacrifice, and patriotism of the 65th Infantry Regiment,” said Lt. Governor Susan Bysiewicz. “The Borinqueneers represent an enduring legacy of service, rooted in courage, resilience, and deep pride. This license plate is a reminder of the extraordinary contributions Puerto Rican soldiers have made to our nation’s history and to the defense of our freedoms. We are honored to ensure their legacy is visible and celebrated across our state,”

“Our agency proudly offers a wide variety of military and veteran-themed license plates, and we’re especially honored to now introduce one commemorating the 65th Infantry Regiment,” said DMV Commissioner Tony Guerrera. “This new plate features meaningful artwork that shines a spotlight on this important chapter in U.S. history, ensuring the contributions of the Borinqueneers continue to be recognized.”

“The Hispanic American Veterans of Connecticut, Inc. were the ones that worked hard with Major Frank Medina (Retired US ARMY) as he started the request to make the Borinqueneers Congressional Gold Medal a reality,” said 1SG (Retired) Juan L. Cruz, Vice President of HAVOCT, Inc. “For that reason and more we are honored to recognize and highlight the courage, resilience and the sacrifice that they carried as they were representing the United States Armed Forces during WWI, WWII, and Korean War. The Borinqueneers were true heroes that brought pride and honor to our island of Puerto Rico, and the United State of America; and we will be honored to display the license plate on our vehicles in the state of Connecticut.”

The 65th Infantry Regiment was composed primarily of Puerto Rican soldiers, during World War I, World War II and the Korean War. This group holds a distinguished place in American military history and is recognized for its valor and resilience in defense of freedom.

This commemorative license plate serves as a lasting tribute to the soldiers who carried forward that legacy. The plate features distinctive elements that reflect the heritage, strength and cultural pride of the Borinqueneers and provides Connecticut residents with an opportunity to publicly display their appreciation for the historic contributions made by the 65th Infantry Regiment.

Plate fees range from $60 to $156. A portion of the proceeds will directly support the Hispanic-American Veterans of Connecticut, Inc. with their efforts in providing bilingual services and assistance to Connecticut veterans and members of the armed forces.
