SMISHING SCAM ALERT: We have been informed that some residents are receiving fraudulent text messages and phone calls. Please be advised that the CT DMV does NOT contact residents regarding motor vehicle related violations.

WALK-IN SERVICES: Walk-in services are not available at our Cheshire, Putnam, and Stamford locations. Additionally, none of our locations offer walk-in services on Saturdays. Residents should expect long wait times if they do not have an appointment. Our appointment system is updated in real time, with new appointments added regularly.

HOLIDAY CLOSING: On Friday, April 3, 2026, DMV offices will be closed for the Good Friday holiday. Offices will reopen on Saturday, April 4, 2026.

Applying to become a marine dealer

An approved marine dealer may assign Connecticut Boat Numbers and issue temporary registration certificates for vessels sold by the marine dealer. The regulations require the business to file a surety bond of $1,500.00.

To apply to participate in the program:

Complete the DMV application (form B-122).
Secure the required surety bond and complete the DMV bond application (form B-120).
Provide DMV with a copy of your valid Connecticut sales tax permit.
Provide DMV with a copy of your business filing verification from the Secretary of the State.

Marine dealerships must operate in accordance with regulations adopted under Section 15-144 (e) of the Connecticut General Statutes.
