Beginning July 1, 2023:
We will begin issuing a new style plate to dealer and repairer customers. The new style plate eliminates the embedded expiration date.
Required documents

To get additional plates, please provide the following:

  • Completed request for marker plates (Form K-6).
  • Connecticut special financial responsibility insurance certificate (Form R1325e, provided by your insurance company) that lists coverage for the total number of plates that the licensee will have assigned to them.
  • Provide a written statement justifying the need for additional plates. Include the number of employees and your average number of service customers in your letter.
  • USED VEHICLE DEALERS – must supply copies of validated registration certificates (form H-13) and/or detailed transaction reports from the online registration system.  You must show that you sell at least 10 vehicles each year for each plate you already have, as well as for each additional plate you are requesting. 
Fees to order additional license plates
  • Regular plate fee: $145

  • Motorcycle plate fee: $79

  • SX plates (dealer plates for commercial vehicles) will be based on gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR)
