About the Donor Registry

The Donor Registry is a database that the local organ procurement organization will reference to see if an individual decided about being a donor. For individuals age 18 and over, being included in the Donor Registry is legal authorization for organ and tissue donation. Remember to discuss your decision with your family.

Register as an organ and tissue donor to help save lives
There is a critical shortage of organs available for transplant—and 20 people die each day because not enough people donate. To help save and heal lives, all Connecticut residents are encouraged to join the Donor Registry.

Signing up is simple—and anyone can register regardless of age, health or medical condition. Your decision to be a donor does not impact the quality of health care you receive if you are sick or injured. As a donor, you can help more than 75 people.

Save someone like Andrew

In 2012, Andrew caught a virus that led to heart problems and, ultimately, to end-stage heart failure. He was admitted to the hospital and placed on the heart transplant waiting list. After four months of living in the hospital intensive care unit, Andrew’s condition worsened despite excellent care. He was implanted with a temporary heart pump that would take over the function of his failing heart to help him live long enough until transplant.

On September 21, 2016, Andrew received the gift of life—a new heart. Since then, Andrew has been on a mission to continue helping others learn the importance of joining the Donor Registry.
