NAME: Shelli Orosz
Title: Contract Analyst
Department of Administrative Services
Office: Procurement Division
1. What do you do?
I am part of the Business Outreach Team in the Procurement Division. Along with my team, I certify small and minority-owned CT-based businesses, train businesses on procurement-related topics, and help in vendor sourcing during the solicitation process. I have a marketing background, so I also help develop community partnerships, marketing initiatives, training materials, and a few other odds and ends.
2. Why do you work for the State of Connecticut?
For several years, I owned a small business, and then I helped other small businesses through the Women’s Business Center (WBC) in Hartford. At the WBC, we partnered with the Business Outreach Team on an annual Business Matchmaker and on several training projects with the MDC. I respected the team and their accomplishments, so when a job opened, I decided to join. It was the best move!
3. What do you love about your job so far?
I love the sense of teamwork. I’m passionate about opening opportunities for small and minority-owned companies, so I also love the work I do. There is always a new challenge to keep me engaged in my work.
4. What are some of your favorite activities outside of work?
I love to cook, garden, hike, and learn new skills. My favorite activities are spending time with my family and friends and listening to live music. Honestly, I also love to organize….anything.
5. Where is your favorite place that you have traveled?
My favorite place is Guatemala. I have visited many times and also lived there. It has such a diversity of landscapes, languages, and traditions, along with my favorite foods.
6. What would you tell someone who is interested in working for the state?
It’s a great place to work!
7. Where is your favorite place in Connecticut?
The state parks and all their lovely trails.
8. If you could choose one superpower, what would it be, and why?
I would become a time traveler and listen to live music throughout history.
9. Who inspires you and why?
My father has been an amazing role model of kindness, hard work, and integrity.
10. Tell us your favorite fun fact.
