Jennifer Wilkinson
Staff Attorney
DAS Procurement
1. What do you do?
I am a DAS Staff Attorney in the Procurement Services Department. In my role, I provide legal support to Contract Specialists who procure goods and services for the state.
2. Why do you work for the State of Connecticut?
I decided to work for the state because I appreciate the excellent benefits, especially the ability to balance both a career and a personal life.
3. What is your favorite part of your job?
The favorite part of my job is working with great people in the Procurement Department. Everyone has been very welcoming. My co-workers have gone out of their way to help me transition into my new role.
4. What are some of your favorite activities outside of work?
If I’m not reading a good book or spending time with friends and family, I enjoy playing tennis, skiing, or attending a fitness class at the gym. My favorite classes are TRX and cycling.
5. Where is your favorite place that you have traveled?
My favorite place to travel is Hawaii. I have fond memories of vacationing there as a kid and more recently with my husband and two sons. In addition to relaxing on the beautiful beaches, I love to hike up one of the many volcanoes or swim in a waterfall.
6. What would you tell someone who is interested in working for the state?
I would tell them to apply. The state offers wonderful benefits, excellent on-the-job training, and great work-life balance.
7. If you could choose one superpower, what would it be, and why?
If I could have any superpower, it would be the ability to eliminate world hunger. It makes me sad to think about all the resources and wealth we have in the world today, yet some people still struggle to put food on the table for their families.
8. Where is your favorite place in Connecticut?
My favorite place in Connecticut is Madison. I enjoy spending time at the shore with family and friends, especially in the summer when we can enjoy the beach, boating, and other fun outdoor activities
9. Who inspires you and why?
The person who inspires me most in life is Charles Carroll, one of my ancestors who signed the Declaration of Independence. He was instrumental in paving our path to freedom and independence from England, DAS despite the fact that doing so would be considered an act of treason, perhaps punishable by death. When I face challenges in life, I think of how courageous this man was to fight for American independence.
10. Tell us your favorite fun fact.
I have always been fascinated by how complex the human body is. Did you know that if your circulatory system were laid out flat, it would stretch for more than 60,000 miles?
