1. Can you share your current role and key responsibilities within the State of Connecticut?
I am a Project Manager for DAS Real Estate and Construction Services. My work involves managing all aspects of DAS Construction Projects from Project Initiation through Final Acceptance. Managing the various phases of a construction project including consultant selection, predesign, design, bidding, construction, contract compliance, management of budget and schedule, and closeout makes this a very comprehensive and unique job.
2. What motivated you to pursue a career with the State of Connecticut, and what has been your journey here?
I pursued a State position because, after working for private construction firms for over 14 years I was looking for a job with more comprehensive responsibilities, better benefits, and more of a team-oriented environment. I started at DAS on July 11, 2014 as an Assistant Project Manager. In January of 2018, I was promoted to Associate Project Manager, and in December of 2021, I was promoted to the full Project Manager position. I enjoy the work that I do and being able to manage different types of projects.
3. What achievements at the State of Connecticut are you most proud of, and what impact have they had?
Over the past 12 years, I have had the privilege of managing some great construction and renovation projects, many of which were for the Connecticut State University System. These projects benefit the students at our State Universities by providing up-to-date facilities that enrich the educational experience and provide essential services for the campuses. Currently, I am working on a number of projects for the Department of Corrections, as well as an energy audit upgrade at a DCF facility. These projects are important as they address aging infrastructure and upgrading to more energy-efficient systems for those facilities. I have also developed great working relationships with my supervisors and co-workers, which means a lot to me.
4. What hobbies or activities do you enjoy outside of your work, and how do they enrich your life?
I enjoy building things, home improvement projects, landscaping, and often using those skills to help others. Even when I am not on the job, I spend time educating myself in different aspects of building construction. I also enjoy exploring different areas of Connecticut, restaurant dining, concerts and theatre performances, and traveling.
5. Could you share a memorable travel experience and what made that destination special for you?
Taking my kids to Disney World for the first time was very memorable. Seeing their excitement and smiles when they got to meet the characters was very special. There is so much to do within all of the different parks and venues, which makes for a great vacation experience. We also frequently travel to Ogunquit, Maine to enjoy the beach and surrounding areas.
6. What advice would you give to someone considering a career with the State of Connecticut?
I would encourage anyone considering a career with the State of Connecticut to go for it. The state offers excellent job opportunities and career paths, along with great benefits, and the opportunity to telework.
7. What’s your favorite spot in Connecticut, and what makes it special to you?
My favorite spot is Harkness Memorial State Park, with the beautiful old buildings and gardens. It is special because my wife and I have had photos taken there on our 10th, 15th, and 20th wedding anniversaries.
8. If you could have any superpower, what would it be and how would you use it to make a difference?
There are never enough hours in a day. So, if I could have any superpower in the world, it would be to double the number of things I can do in one day, both at work and at home.
9. Who is the person you admire, and what qualities do they possess that inspire you?
The ones I admire the most are my wife and my kids. The unconditional love and respect we have for each other hold our family together. They inspire me to be the best person I can be. Likewise, I always encourage them to follow their dreams.
10. What’s an interesting or fun fact?
The largest building in the world, by volume, is the Boeing Factory in Everett, Washington. It has a floor area of 4.3 million square feet and a volume of 472 million cubic feet.
