What you'll do at an appeal hearing
At a hearing, the referee first asks everyone to introduce themselves and explains the hearing. Then the referee formally submits the information he or she already has received. This usually includes a fact-finding report and all documents from the first hearing at the American Job Center.
You then provide your own description of events, present your evidence, and introduce your witnesses. The referee usually asks you and your witnesses questions to get more information. Listen carefully to their questions and answer them directly and plainly. Give complete and accurate information, without bringing in unrelated issues.
You, your former employer, and all witnesses must testify under oath. Everyone must be on their best behavior: threatening language or actions toward staff, customers, or appeal participants is not allowed.
Before the end of the hearing, the referee will let you add anything you feel is important and make a closing statement.
