The US Postal Service (USPS) now postmarks mail at the time it gets sorted, not at the time it’s left at a USPS mailbox or picked up by a mail carrier. To ensure you meet ‘mail by’ deadlines, CTDOL recommends visiting the Post Office service desk to have your item postmarked the same day that it’s dropped off.
