1. Can you share your current role and key responsibilities within the State of Connecticut? 

I currently serve as Chief Boiler Inspector within the State Bureau of Boilers. Our division is responsible for conducting inspections of approximately 40,000 boilers and water heaters throughout our jurisdiction. Our primary mission is to ensure public safety through inspection, regulatory compliance and enforcement of applicable codes and standards. 

2. What motivated you to pursue a career with the State of Connecticut, and what has been your journey here? 

My career began in the mechanical trades, where I obtained plumbing and heating licenses and worked for approximately 24 years. I later joined the State of Connecticut to pursue greater career opportunities and expertise within the mechanical industries.

3. What achievements at the State of Connecticut are you most proud of, and what impact have they had?

I became an inspector with the State of Connecticut Bureau of Boilers in 2006. Since that time, I have obtained a National Commission with the National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspectors and advanced to the role of Chief Inspector of the bureau. 

In addition, I serve as a member of the State of Connecticut to both the National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspectors and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers in matters related to the boiler and pressure vessel industry. 

4. What hobbies or activities do you enjoy outside of your work, and how do they enrich your life?

I enjoy cooking, barbequing, baking (anything food-related). I am very active as the President of our high school booster group. I, along with our group, make meals and travel arrangements, and fundraising for our students. 

5. Could you share a memorable travel experience and what made that destination special for you?

My family and I travel often to the Outer Banks in North Carolina. We enjoy the incredible beaches. I also enjoy fishing here as well. 

6. What advice would you give to someone considering a career with the State of Connecticut?

I would tell them that State service has been a great place for me. The Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner, along with the State Building Inspector and Deputy State Building Inspector, have given us incredible support in our mission to enhance public safety in our industry. 

7. What’s your favorite spot in Connecticut, and what makes it special to you?

The upper Farmington River. I fly fish there often with my son Connor. 

8. If you could have any superpower, what would it be and how would you use it to make a difference?

To support my family in continued success and growth along with the groups I volunteer with. 

9. Who is the person you admire, and what qualities do they possess that inspire you? 

My wife Shelley. She is honest and kind, and an incredible person in general. 

10. What’s an interesting or fun fact?

Connecticut has several places open to the public for the display of antique steam and hot water boilers along with several locomotives and traction engines.
