NAME: Mae Kerwin
Title: Contract Analyst/ Surplus Administrator
Department of Administrative Services
Office: Procurement

1. What do you do?

I am an Administrator for Connecticut’s State and Federal Surplus Programs.  I support state agencies, municipalities, nonprofits, and eligible organizations by facilitating the disposition of surplus property from the State of Connecticut or Federal Agencies.  I focus on program training, outreach to potential users, and the development of streamlined processes to ensure all participants benefit effectively.

2. Why do you work for the State of Connecticut?

I greatly enjoy knowing that what I do can help so many people and organizations in different ways, including the community, their businesses, and even their personal lives.

3. What do you love about your job so far?

We are able to see a variety of unique surplus property come through the program and how it can be reused or repurposed, extending its lifecycle and benefiting the community.

4. What are some of your favorite activities outside of work?

I love all kinds of arts and crafts, party planning, and trying new foods with the people I love.

5. Where is your favorite place that you have traveled?

I haven’t traveled far (yet!), but it’d be Quebec and Montreal.  I enjoy foodie adventures!

6. What would you tell someone who is interested in working for the state?

Do it.  The people I’ve met here are genuine and can make all the difference in your environment and your position, whatever it may be.

7. Where is your favorite place in Connecticut?

Honestly, it’s my home.  I love driving around CT, but nothing beats coming home to my space and bed.

8. If you could choose one superpower, what would it be, and why?

The ability to wield and manipulate a natural element, preferably water.  It’d be interesting to be able to do so much with water as it’s everywhere and with the right push and pull, it can be a great asset to do good in the world.

9. Who inspires you and why?

My mother because of everything she has overcome in her life.  Her resiliency has taught me to be just as strong while still finding the joy in life.

10. Tell us your favorite fun fact.

Pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis is the longest word in most English dictionaries.
