NAME: Heather Schlink
Title: Associate Project Manager
Department of Administrative Services
Office of Real Estate and Construction Services

1. What do you do?

I hold the position of Associate Project Manager within the Office of Real Estate and Construction Services. In this capacity, I am responsible for managing assigned large vertical construction projects during the planning, design, and execution of a project, encompassing varying budgets, phases, types, agencies, and complexities. My role involves close collaboration with multiple State agencies and project partners, architects, engineers, construction administrators, and Contractors in construction disciplines to ensure the successful development, renovation, and maintenance of State buildings and facilities.

2. Why do you work for the State of Connecticut?

I love working for the state because it allows me to collaborate with people from diverse backgrounds and professions. I get to work on projects across the state, discovering new places along the way. My amazing coworkers make every day a positive experience, and the support from management motivates me to continue growing professionally and expand my knowledge in project management.

3. What do you love about your job so far?

I enjoy the variety of projects I get to work on across the State, and I take pride in supporting multiple agencies as we collaborate on these initiatives.

4. What are some of your favorite activities outside of work?

I have a deep passion for gardening, and there's nothing quite like the joy I feel when my lilies and hydrangeas bloom. I also enjoy going to the movies, unwinding by the ocean, or spending time by the pool with family during the summer. However, what I cherish most is the time I get to spend with my two daughters. Supporting their interests and creating lasting memories together, no matter where life takes us, is very fulfilling.

5. Where is your favorite place that you have traveled?

The Island of Hawai'i. It was beautiful. I had the incredible experience of night snorkeling with dolphins and manta rays in the open ocean, got up close to beautiful sea turtles in their natural habitats, toured an active volcano, and watched the sunrise on the beach each morning. It was truly an unforgettable experience.

6. What would you tell someone who is interested in working for the state?

Apply! Working for the State is an incredibly rewarding experience. The work-life balance, excellent benefits, and the opportunity to collaborate with amazing people make it all the more fulfilling. Most importantly, the work you do has a real impact on communities across the State.

7. Where is your favorite place in Connecticut?

My favorite place in Connecticut is Mystic.  You can visit the beach, the Mystic Aquarium, and The Sea Port, enjoy the amazing restaurants and local shops, attend festivals throughout the summer, or just take in the sites.  I especially love walking around downtown and admiring how beautifully preserved the historic homes are.

8. If you could choose one superpower, what would it be, and why?

My superpower would be speed. I’d love to breeze through tasks quickly and efficiently, leaving me with extra time to enjoy with my family and pursue the activities I’m passionate about.

9. Who inspires you and why?

My two daughters inspire me every day. They motivate me to not only be the best mom I can be by supporting their dreams but also to set an example as a strong, professional woman.

10. Tell us your favorite fun fact.

I’ve been a huge Disney fan my whole life. My parents raised us on Disney movies, shows, and especially trips to Walt Disney World. We’d visit the parks in Orlando nearly every year. Now, I’m so happy to be able to create those same magical memories and share the fun with my daughters at Disney World!
