It's time for riders in Connecticut to feel that their train rides are the most productive and comfortable part of their day. Replacing aging train cars will provide a modern, connected customer experience. The expanded rail fleet will enable more frequent service throughout the state and improved express services to New York City.
The State of Connecticut purchased 60 new rail cars from Alstom for use on its rail network. The new coaches have onboard Wi-Fi, bike storage, and power outlets, with cars expected to enter service in 2027.
Upgrading the New Haven Yard will allow for an increase in Connecticut’s fleet, resulting in newer, more comfortable cars and more frequent service.
Connecticut partnered with Metro-North Railroad to order six dual-mode locomotives that will be capable of traveling both in the electric-only Park Avenue Tunnel in Manhattan and on the non-electrified tracks along the Danbury Branch, Waterbury Branch, and Hartford Line.
