CTDOT is replacing the 128-year-old WALK Bridge with a new moveable bridge that will strengthen commuter rail safety, enhance commuting reliability, and increase operational efficiency along the New Haven Line and Northeast Corridor. The WALK Bridge program also includes other infrastructure initiatives such as track and catenary upgrades along the New Haven Line, upgrades to the East Norwalk Train Station, replacement of four local railroad bridges along the New Haven Line, and roadway and utility improvements on Fort Point Street and East Avenue in East Norwalk.
Stamford Transportation Center is undergoing a modernization project that has replaced escalators, elevators, and built a new parking garage. More improvements are expected as part of the ongoing Transit Oriented Development effort in the station area.
CTDOT is upgrading all six stations along the Waterbury Branch with high-level platforms, new passenger waiting facilities, improved vehicular circulation, full ADA accessibility, EV chargers, and more. Construction on these projects began in July 2026.
