Unemployment Benefits and Job Training
If you are eligible for benefits and enroll in a job training course, you may receive unemployment benefits if we decide:
- Training will help you develop skills or abilities needed in the workplace, and
- There aren't any reasonable job opportunities for you near where you live or they have substantially diminished in your labor market for the type of work you are best fitted to perform at your highest skill level, and
- The training facility or sponsor determined you're qualified to complete training
Any training that falls under the Workforce Innovation Opportunity Act (WIOA) or Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) program will be approved if you're enrolled in school or training that is not part of the TAA program. To view the list of approved training programs, go to CTHires.com and:
- Click on Resources and Services, then
- Click on Training Providers and Schools, then
- Click on Eligible Training Provider List (under Education Services)
Important info to know:
- Training may not be approved, even if you pay for it.
- Unemployment benefits are not extended because you enroll in training.
- If you are in TAA-approved training and qualify for Trade Re-adjustment Allowances (TRA), you may be eligible to receive TRA.
