Effectiveness of Educational Technology

Schools leverage educational software to support personalized learning and streamline operations in a variety of ways. Recent reporting indicates that Connecticut public schools collectively use more than 7,000 educational software products (see 2025 Annual Report, page 22). To help teachers, leaders, and parents understand the use and benefits of educational technology, the Commission offers the following resources:

  • Ed Tech Dashboard: Through an agreement with LearnPlatform, the Commission provides education leaders at no cost an interactive dashboard of the software used in their district. This tool shows the applications in use among teachers and students through the collection of anonymous data. Dashboard insights enable decision-makers to identify effective learning tools as well as duplicate software purchases that schools can eliminate. For step-by-step instructions on how to set up the dashboard for your district, visit this page.

  • Rapid-Cycle Evaluation Pilot: In the 2025 - 26 school year, the Commission has partnered with LearnPlatform through generous funding from the Ballmer Group to assess the effectiveness of various instructional technology products. Eight participating districts will share anonymous data to identify the effects of personalized learning and assessment software on learning outcomes. The results of this pilot will provide a model for all districts to follow, helping to streamline technology use tools that advance student achievement.
