Connecticut Leave Programs

Leave programs are available to eligible workers in Connecticut.
Help for Workers

Connecticut has three separate laws to help eligible workers who need to take leave from their job due to their own medical condition or a care situation involving a family member. CTDOL administers the following:

  • CT Paid Sick Leave
  • CT Family & Medical Leave
  • Appeals for the CT Paid Leave program

Here’s how the programs work and where to go with any questions.

CT Leave Programs: Overview

CT Paid Sick Leave

CT Paid Sick Leave is a benefit paid for by employers. It provides eligible employees with up to 40 hours of paid sick time. On 1/1/25, most employers with 25 or more employees must provide paid sick time. Beginning 1/1/27, most employers with one or more employees must provide this benefit.

CT Family & Medical Leave

The CT Family and Medical Leave Act provides eligible employees with job-protected leave. Eligible workers will get unpaid leave time but maintain job security. Employers give workers forms that they fill out and return to employer. Eligibility information; laws and regulations; and how to file a complaint if your rights are violated.

CT Paid Leave                          (& Paid Leave Appeals)

CT Paid Leave Act provides eligible workers with income replacement if they need care or to care for family. The Connecticut Department of Labor (CTDOL) oversees CT Paid Leave appeals. The CT Paid Leave Authority, a separate entity, handles CT Paid Leave eligibility and applications.
