2026 Hybrid Public Meeting
CTDOT is advancing a structural rehabilitation of the Heroes Tunnel lining system while revisiting and completing the preliminary design for critical safety and fire protection upgrades. This effort will address essential infrastructure needs and enhance safety for all users. The project is currently in the design and environmental review phases and covers the tunnel and its approaches into Woodbridge, Hamden, and New Haven.
CTDOT is committed to engaging the public throughout this process and hosted a hybrid public meeting to share more about the Heroes Tunnel Project on January 12, 2026. The in-person open house was held at the New Haven Fire Academy from 5 p.m. - 8 p.m., during which attendees reviewed materials and spoke with the project team.
A presentation was held from 6 p.m. - 7 p.m., available both in person and virtually, followed by a question-and-answer session. All information and materials presented were the same for both the in-person and virtual formats. Registration via Zoom was required for virtual participation.
How to Comment
Meaningful input is our number one priority. Below are ways to make your voice heard and to help shape the future of transportation in Connecticut.
The public comment period will be open January 12 - January 28, 2026. Comments may be submitted by email, by mail, by phone, or in-person at the hybrid public information meeting. While we accept comments throughout the planning process, official public comment periods are aligned with the project milestones to receive public feedback when it is needed the most.
