The Gold Star Memorial Bridge consists of Northbound and Southbound structures carrying Interstate 95 over the Thames River, New England Central Railroad, Providence and Worcester Railroad, and local roads in New London and Groton.
The Gold Star Memorial Bridges need rehabilitation to address the poor conditions of the Northbound deck and bridge steel superstructure, and to ensure that the structures continue to safely carry passenger vehicles and legal trucks, as well as oversized/overweight vehicles, which are currently restricted from using the bridges, well into the future.

Steel Strengthening of the Northbound Bridge: Construction is already in progress.

Rehabilitation of the Northbound Bridge: Construction to begin in June 2025.

Steel Strengthening of the Southbound Bridge: Construction is expected to begin in March 2025.

Pedestrian Improvements: Construction is expected to begin in May 2028.

Construction is already in progress on the Steel Strengthening of the Northbound Bridge (Project 0094-0256) and scheduled to be completed by June 2025.

Steel Strengthening of the Southbound Bridge (Project 0094-0268) will precede Pedestrian Improvements (Project 0094-0267) and Rehabilitation of the Northbound Bridge (Project 0094-0261) due to the crossover.

All projects are anticipated to be substantially completed by fall of 2029.
