Special Offerings classes are typically longer in length and often feature hands-on or specialized training; the classes are presented once or twice.

How to become a Licensed Building Code Enforcement Official
There are two routes to becoming a licensed building code enforcement official within the State of Connecticut – training and testing. To be admitted to either the Pre-Licensure Training Program or the credentialing examination for a specific license, you must first meet the statutory and regulatory requirements established for that license; there are nine subcategories of building code enforcement official.

The Office of Education and Data Management (OEDM) administers all aspects of the credentialing exams for the Office of the State Building Inspector, including the tests for the Pre-Licensure Training Program and the licensure exams offered each quarter (Quarterly Exams).

Code Training and Education Fees Assessed on Municipal Building Permits
The legislature established a special fund that provides training specific to the State Building and Fire Codes. This fund is called the Code Education Fund, and is paid for by assessments on the construction value of local building permits.

Starting in 2017, The Office of Education and Data Management (OEDM) will provide online code training for building and fire officials, and design and trades professionals. For individuals credentialed through OEDM, completion of our online training will count toward your continuing education credit hours.
