Traffic Engineering - Signal Projects and Signal Management

The Signal Projects and Signal Management Unit of the Division of Traffic Engineering is responsible for the design and management of state-owned traffic signals. Comprised of a Design Section, an Electrical Section, and an Asset Management Section.
 
Specific responsibilities include:
  • Programming future traffic signal installations and upgrades
  • Preparing plans, specifications, and estimates for traffic signal projects
  • Reviewing traffic signal designs prepared by consultants
  • Managing traffic signal installation projects
  • Establishing traffic signal design practices and updating the Department’s Traffic Signal Design Manual
  • Managing the asset of over 2,500 state owned traffic signals
  • Maintaining and updating traffic design specifications
  • Coordinating with utilities for traffic signal projects
  • Ensuring code and utility regulations compliance in traffic signal projects
