What's New?

CTDOT's research project, “Adaptation of 3D Scanning Technology for High-Precision Bridge Inspection,” received a 2026 AASHTO High-Value Research Award for Region 1. A University of Connecticut study validated that handheld 3D scanners capture bridge conditions to sub-millimeter precision. CTDOT's Bridge Division now uses the technology to develop engineered repairs after bridge strikes and to document historic Merritt Parkway structures. The award recognizes how validated research became a practical tool that engineers use to solve real problems in the field.
