Overview

The Gold Star Memorial Bridge is the largest bridge in the state of Connecticut. Separate northbound and southbound spans connect New London and Groton over the Thames River. The Gold Star Memorial Bridge is one of the most iconic bridges in all of Connecticut, carrying more than 100,000 vehicles every day, supporting commercial and recreational activities. It is an important link transporting people and goods throughout the region.

Bridge 03819 (Northbound Gold Star Memorial Bridge) and Bridges 02514A and B (Southbound Gold Star Memorial Bridge), carrying Interstate 95 and Route 1 over the Thames River, New England Central Railroad, Providence and Worcester Railroad and Local Roads in New London and Groton.

Description: 

Four projects are currently in place for the Gold Star Memorial Bridge:

 

Steel Strengthening of the Northbound Bridge Truss Spans, under Project No. 0094-0256

Steel Strengthening of the Northbound Bridge Approach Spans, Deck Replacement and Substructure Rehabilitation, under Project No. 0094-0235/0094-0261

Steel Strengthening of the Southbound Bridge, under Project No. 0094-0268

Construction of a Shared Use Path on the Southbound Bridge, along with other Pedestrian Improvements, under Project No. 0094-0267
