The meeting location is ADA accessible. The venue has nearby public transit access and is centrally located in downtown New Haven.
The public information meeting is being held to provide the public and local community the opportunity to offer comments or ask questions regarding the proposed project. “The purpose of this project is to rehabilitate the existing platforms and construct a new canopy which will increase the overall longevity of the station's service to passengers and provide shelter during various weather conditions,” said Connecticut Department of Transportation Project Manager Jonathan Kang. “We encourage the public to attend the meeting and share any feedback that may assist the team as the design continues.”
The project involves replacing the existing high-level platforms at the New Haven Union Station and constructing a new canopy structure to cover passengers while they are on the platforms. The project includes supporting rail, power, and station utility improvements needed to complete the work, as well as supplementary improvements to the pedestrian tunnel, stairs, and elevators.
Right-of-way impacts are not expected.
Construction is anticipated to begin spring 2029 based on the availability of funding and approval of permit(s). The estimated construction cost for this project is approximately $402 million. This project is anticipated to be undertaken with federal funds and state funds.
