The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) will conduct a virtual public information meeting concerning the replacement of two bridges—Bridge Nos. 04770 and 04771— carrying Brook Road over Merrick Brook, between Brooklyn Turnpike and Route 97, in Scotland on December 12, 2024, at 7:00 pm.
The virtual public information meeting is being held to provide the public and local community the opportunity to offer comments or ask questions regarding the proposed project. The meeting will take place on Zoom, and registration is required. A question and answer (Q&A) session will immediately follow the presentation, which will be recorded. For instructions on accessing the meeting and ways to provide comments and ask questions, please visit http://portal.ct.gov/DOTScotland123-67.
“The purpose of this project is to replace a temporary bridge and currently closed bridge on Brook Road that both collapsed during significant rainfall in September 2023,” said Connecticut Department of Transportation Project Manager Michelle Rame. “We encourage the public to attend this meeting to share their feedback with the CTDOT project team to incorporate into the design of these two bridges to meet current design standards, improving resiliency.”
Right-of-way impacts associated with the proposed improvements include private, town, and state properties and will consist of temporary construction easements for access, grading, and water handling, as well as a partial take for replacement of existing structures.
Construction is anticipated to begin in spring 2027, based on the availability of funding, acquisition of rights of way, and approval of permit(s). The estimated construction cost for this project is approximately $5.6 million. This project is anticipated to be undertaken with 80% federal funds and 20% state funds.
