Income can reduce your unemployment benefits

Your weekly benefit payment can be reduced or denied if you receive certain types of income or payments:

  • Part-time wages, wages for any work performed, and/or tips
    • Wages must be reported when they are earned, not paid. We will reduce your weekly benefit by 2/3 of your weekly gross earnings.
    • This includes temporary assignments.
  • Payment from self-employment, whether full time or part time
  • Commissions or stipends
  • Vacation pay
  • Severance pay or wages in lieu of notice
  • Holiday pay
  • Retention bonus
  • Worker's compensation
  • Employer-sponsored disability payments
  • Employer-sponsored pensions
  • Unemployment Insurance under other state or federal law
  • Back pay awards

We may conduct a hearing to determine whether your vacation or severance pay reduces, eliminates, or has no impact on your weekly benefit payment. We will review your employer's vacation policy and whether they required you to sign a "release of claims" agreement to receive severance pay.
