Your unemployment packet

When you are laid off, you will receive a packet with your “pink slip.” It includes the employer’s stated reason for your unemployment. Common reasons include laid off for lack of work, voluntarily left, and discharged. You must provide that reason and other company information when you apply for unemployment benefits.

The packet usually includes instructions on how to apply for benefits, the questions you’ll be asked when applying, and any special information you will need when you file your claim. The unemployment packet is also available online in Spanish from the Department of Labor.
