Eligibility for unemployment benefits
Most workers who are laid off or furloughed can receive unemployment benefits. To be eligible, you must:
- Be physically and mentally able to work
- Be totally or partially unemployed
- Have an appropriate reason (such as the employer doesn’t have enough work for you or is reducing its staff)
- Have worked in Connecticut during the past 12 months (this period may be longer in some cases)
- Have earned a minimum amount of wages determined by Connecticut guidelines
- Actively seek work each week
- File your claim for benefits on a timely basis
If we see that you are running out of unemployment benefits, we may enroll you in a special reemployment services program. You must participate in all of the assessment interviews, orientation, and referred reemployment services to continue receiving benefits.
