Unemployment benefits and self employment

You may or may not receive unemployment benefits if you are self-employed:

  • If you're self-employed part time or for extra work, you may be eligible for partial benefits. You must demonstrate that you are able to work and looking for an employer-employee job. We will reduce your weekly benefit by 2/3 of the amount of any payment you received for self-employed work.
  • If you're self-employed full time or spending most of your re-employment time becoming self-employed or establishing a business, you are not eligible for unemployment benefits.
