User Guide: Small Business Certification Directory

Find certified small businesses

Need to make a purchase or source small and minority-owned companies for an upcoming solicitation? Start with Connecticut’s certified small businesses. These companies are vetted through the state’s certification program, making it easier to find local suppliers.
Step number 1

Step 1: Search the Small Business Certification Directory to identify certified suppliers.

Use the "Advanced Search" to find businesses that provide the product or service you need.

  • Search by descriptive keywords related to the product or service. You may need to try several keywords or phrases to identify the most relevant potential vendors.
  • Do not search by NAICS code. NAICS codes classify businesses by industry and are not linked to specific products or services, so results may include businesses that are not relevant to your purchase.
  • Want to see both active and expired certifications? Leave the certification status fields unchecked.

This directory is a strong starting point for finding qualified vendors, but its use is not required.

Step number 2

Step 2: Contact suppliers.

Download the directory search results, which will include contact information.

  • Contact at least three businesses to request quotes.
  • Compare pricing, availability, and fit for your needs.
  • Email notice of a new solicitation opportunity.
Step number 3

Step 3: Complete your purchase or solicitation process.

  • Purchases: Keep records of quotes and your final selection.
  • Solicitations: Keep records of sourcing outreach distribution lists.
