Welcome to the webpage for Project 0096-0209, Replacement of Bridge No. 01214 carrying Schoolhouse Hill over I-84 in Newtown

 

A virtual public informational meeting for the project will be held on Thursday, August 20, 2026, at 6:00 p.m.

 

The purpose of this meeting is to provide the community an opportunity to learn about the proposed project and allow an open discussion of any views and comments concerning the proposed improvements. A Q&A session will immediately follow the presentation.

 

The purpose of this project is to replace the existing bridge’s superstructure and conduct a comprehensive rehabilitation of its substructure to ensure the bridge superstructure complies load rating requirements and to provide a safe crossing for the traveling public on and below the bridge.

 

Right-of-way impacts are not anticipated.

 

Construction is anticipated to begin spring 2029, depending on funding, right-of-way acquisition, and permits. The estimated cost is $11 million with 80% federal funds and 20% state funds.
