Welcome to the webpage for State Project No. PP042-0014, East Hartford Main Street Improvements
An in-person public informational meeting for the project will be held on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. at the East Hartford Town Hall Council Chambers located at 740 Main Street in East Hartford. This meeting aims to inform the community about the proposed project, gather feedback, and answer questions.
The purpose of this project is to improve Main Street from Pitkin Street to Burnside Avenue, and to incorporate Complete Streets elements, including facilities for bicycles, pedestrians, and transit users. The project will reconfigure travel lanes and on-street parking, as well as improve intersections. Roundabouts are planned for Pitkin Street and Burnside Avenue to provide increased safety for all road users. This is a Greater Hartford Mobility Program project.
Right-of-way impacts will include easements and rights but have not yet been quantified because the project is still at the concept level.
Construction is expected to start in spring 2029, depending on funding, right(s)-of-way acquisition, and permits.
The estimated cost is $38 million, with 80% federal funds and 20% state funds.
