Apply for a CT Hoisting Equipment Operator License

Overview

A Connecticut Hoisting Equipment Operator License is required to operate hoisting equipment meeting all of the following criteria:

  • Motorized equipment
  • Used in construction, demolition or excavation work
  • At a construction site of a project that:
    • Is other than residential structures of less than four stories
    • Has an estimated cost of more than $1,250,000
  • With manufacturer’s rated lifting capacity exceeding 5 tons
  • Manufacturer’s rated maximum reach in excess of 32 feet

If your equipment does not meet ALL of the above, it is not regulated by this department.

This is a two-year license.

All applicants are required to take and pass a written exam. The exam is given approximately every four to eight weeks. Exam dates and locations are notified by mail.
