Welcome to the webpage for Project 131-214, the Replacement of Bridge No. 01241, Bridge No. 01242, and Bridge No. 01243 carrying State and Local Roads over I-84 in Southington.

A hybrid public informational meeting for the project was held on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. in the Assembly Room at the John Weichsel Municipal Center at 196 North Main St. in Southington. This meeting aims to inform the community about the proposed project, gather feedback, and answer any questions.

The purpose of these replacements is to provide the local community with continued safe mobility through a design-build contract for faster improvements.

The three bridges carry these roads:

  • Bridge No. 01241 – Jude Lane
  • Bridge No. 01242 – Route 229 (West Street)
  • Bridge No. 01243 – Curtiss Street

Right-of-way impacts are as follows:

  • Bridge No. 01241 – Impacts adjacent to the structure for roadway reconstruction and slope grading are anticipated.
  • Bridge No. 01242 – No temporary or permanent right-of-way impacts are anticipated.
  • Bridge No. 01243 – Impacts associated with drainage headwall reconstruction on the west side of the structure as well as roadway reconstruction and slope grading on the east side of the structure are anticipated.

Construction is anticipated to begin in the summer 2028 based on the availability of funding, acquisition of rights of way, and approval of permit(s). The estimated construction cost for this project is between $60-$90 million. This project is anticipated to be undertaken with 80% federal funds and 20% state funds.
