Welcome to the webpage for the Replacement of Bridge No. 05520 carrying Park Road over Broad Brook & Bridge No. 06085 carrying Cooktown Road over Unnamed Brook in Preston.
A virtual public informational meeting for the project will be held on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at 6:00 p.m.
This meeting aims to inform the community about the proposed project, gather feedback, and answer any questions. This meeting will take place on Zoom, and registration is required. A question and answer (Q&A) session will immediately follow the presentation, which will be recorded.
Bridge No. 05520 involves:
- Construction of a new bridge consisting of precast prestressed reinforced concrete deck units covered with a reinforced concrete shear slab founded on reinforced concrete integral abutments supported by drilled micropiles.
- The roadway will be raised up to 3.6 feet to allow the proposed structure to span over the original stone clapper and reinforced concrete slab superstructure which is to remain in place.
- Full-depth roadway reconstruction will take place within the limits of the proposed roadway profile.
Bridge No. 06085 involves:
- Replacement of the existing timber superstructure and a new bridge consisting of precast prestressed reinforced concrete deck units covered with a reinforced concrete shear slab founded on reinforced concrete integral abutments supported by drilled micropiles.
- The roadway will be raised up to 2.0 feet to allow the proposed structure to span over the original stone masonry arch culvert which is to remain in place.
- Full-depth roadway reconstruction will take place within the limits of the proposed roadway profile.
Right-of-way impacts consist of permanent slope easements and a right-to-grade driveways to accommodate the raise in the roadway profile as well as temporary construction easements for the contractor to complete the work.
Construction is anticipated to begin in spring 2027 based on the availability of funding, acquisition of rights of way, and approval of permit(s).
The estimated construction cost for the replacement of Bridge No. 05520 is approximately $2.8 million. The estimated construction cost for the replacement of Bridge No. 06085 is approximately $2.6 million. These projects are anticipated to be undertaken with 80% federal funds and 20% state funds.
