Welcome to the webpage for Project 0108-0196, the Design, Permitting, and Construction of the Quinebaug River Trail in Plainfield.
A hybrid public informational meeting for the project will be held in-person at Plainfield Town Hall Auditorium at 8 Community Avenue in Plainfield on Thursday, April 9, 2026, at 6:00 p.m., and virtually on Zoom. This meeting aims to inform the community about the proposed project, gather feedback, and answer any questions.
The project involves the designing, permitting, and construction of a 0.7-mile long, 10-ft wide segment of multi-use trail beginning at the intersection South Walnut Street and 1st Street and ending at Trout Hatchery Road (SSR 426). Completion of this segment of proposed muti-use trail will improve recreational opportunities and enhance non-motorized mobility and quality of life for both local and regional residents.
Right-of-way impacts associated with the proposed improvements are not expected to impact private property.
Construction is anticipated to begin in 2027 based on the availability of funding, acquisition of rights of way, and approval of permit(s). The estimated construction cost for this project is approximately $1-$2 million. This project is anticipated to be undertaken with 80% federal funds and 20% state funds.
