Welcome to the webpage for Route 9 Interchange 38 Improvements in Newington and New Britain.

 

An in-person public informational meeting for the project will be held on Monday, November 9, 2026, at 6:30 p.m. at Newington Town Hall at 200 Garfield Street in the Town Council Chambers. The meeting location is ADA accessible. This meeting aims to inform the community about the proposed project, gather feedback, and answer any questions. This meeting will be held as an open-house style presentation where individuals can view project plans and discuss comments or questions with the project staff. A formal presentation will begin at 7:30 p.m.

 

The project involves realignment of the Route 9 Northbound Exit 38 off ramp to Route 175 and intersection improvements at the Route 9 Northbound/Southbound interchange. The purpose of this project is to reduce peak hour congestion and improve safety at the interchanges. Additional sidewalk installation is included on Route 175, Fenn Road, and Ella Grasso Boulevard.

 

Right-of-way impacts are anticipated with the proposed improvements.

 

Construction is expected to start winter 2029, depending on funding, right(s)-of-way acquisition, and permits. The estimated cost is $9.5 million, with 80% federal funds and 20% state funds.
