Welcome to the webpage for Project 0092-0681 Intersection Improvements at Route 10, S.R. 745, and Kimberly Ave in the City of New Haven.
A public informational meeting for the project was held on Wednesday, September 25, 2024 at Betsy Ross Arts Magnet School (150 Kimberly Avenue New Haven, CT 06519). There was an open forum for individual discussions at 6:00 p.m. followed by a formal presentation at 7:00 p.m.
Construction is anticipated to begin in Fall 2026 based on the availability of funding, acquisition of rights of way, and approval of permit(s). The estimated construction cost for this project is approximately $7,600,000. This project is anticipated to be undertaken with 80% federal funds and 20% state funds.
The purpose of this project is to improve the safety and traffic operations at the Route 10 and Kimberly Avenue intersection, as well as along State Route 745 (S.R. 745). The project is needed because of the high number of crashes within the project limits.
Signal improvements will occur at the intersection of Route 10, S.R. 745, and Kimberly Avenue to improve pedestrian, cyclist, and vehicular safety ad operation through the intersection. Revisions to existing drainage and utility facilities impacted by the project will occur.
The proposed improvements on Route 10 include adding dedicated left turn lanes in both directions at the intersection with S.R. 745 and Kimberly Avenue while also maintaining the two through lanes in both directions through the intersection. Both sides of the roadway will be widened to accommodate the left turn lanes. The traffic signal will be replaced to accommodate the proposed lane arrangement. Route 10 will be tapered down to a 2-lane cross section in the vicinity of Plymouth Street where a raised crosswalk with a rapid-rectangular-flashing-beacon (RRFB) will be constructed. A two-way left turn lane (TWLTL), delineation of on-street parking stalls, and a designated bike lane adjacent to the reconstructed sidewalk are proposed along the S.R. 745 approach.
The right-of-way impacts associated with this project includes partial takes at the corners of the intersection of Route 10, S.R. 745, and Kimberly Avenue to accommodate the necessary width for pedestrian sidewalks as well as construction easements to construct the required improvements.
