Welcome to the webpage for State Project No. 0082-0317, Rehabilitation of the Middletown-Portland Railroad Bridge over the Connecticut River in Middletown and Portland.
A hybrid public informational meeting for the project will be held on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at 6:30 p.m. at Middletown High School, located at 200 La Rosa Ln. This meeting aims to inform the community about the proposed project, gather feedback, and answer any questions.
This rehabilitation will increase the bridge’s load capacity and modernize its mechanical and electric systems to provide reliable operation.
Right-of-way impacts are not anticipated. Construction is expected to start fall 2028, depending on funding and permits. The estimated cost is $87 million, with state and federal funds.
