National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI)

The National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Formula Program (NEVI) is part of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law enacted in 2021. This program will provide $5 billion over five years for states to deploy direct current (DC) fast electric vehicle (EV) chargers along highway corridors. The NEVI Program provides formula funding to states to award grants to private, public, and nonprofit entities to build, own, maintain and operate chargers.

Introduction

Over the first five years of the NEVI Formula Program, Connecticut will receive approximately $52 million in dedicated formula funding.

The initial focus of this funding, Phase 1, is for the state to strategically deploy Direct Current Fast Charging (DCFC) along designated Alternative Fuel Corridors (AFCs), to help build out the national electric AFC network.

Phase 1b Grant Solicitation – Statewide AFCs

CTDOT has opened an additional round of funding for NEVI titled Phase 1b – Statewide AFCs. The Request for Proposals (RFP) for Phase 1b opened on July 22, 2024, and will close at 5 p.m. ET on October 21, 2024. The RFP is available on the State’s Bid Portal, CT Source: NEVI Phase 1b RFP: #23999

Projects must be located within one drivable mile from any exit or intersection along an Alternative Fuel Corridor (AFC) located in Connecticut. AFCs include the entirety of I-84, I-91, I-95, I-395, and Route 7.

An informational webinar was held on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, at 9:00 a.m. ET. A recording is available on CTDOT’s YouTube page. Questions on the RFP were accepted through September 27.
