Plainfield Bus Service Ribbon Cutting

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) announced that a new bus route serving Plainfield will begin on September 8, 2020.

Northeastern Connecticut Transit District (NECTD) will operate the Orange Line - a circulator route in Plainfield that will also provide connections to the Red and Purple lines of NECTD and with Southeast Area Transit District (SEAT). Connections to SEAT buses can be made at Lisbon Landing. All rides on the new route are $1.00 with discounted tickets of fifteen rides for $10.00.

The Orange Line will have stops at the Wauregan Post Office, Central Village, South Main and Ward (Moosup), Plainfield Village/Town Hall, Big Y and Lisbon Landing. The bus will also serve the following locations on request: Moosup Gardens, Sunny Acres, Aldrich Library, Walgreens, Plainfield Senior Center, Backus Hospital, and Village Manor/Eastwind Village.

“We are thrilled with Plainfield’s decision to rejoin the Northeastern Connecticut Transit District,” said Dennis Solensky, Transit Administrator at Connecticut Department of Transportation. “The new service to Plainfield and the surrounding areas, which the Connecticut DOT is supporting, represents an important part of our commitment and plans to enhance transit service in eastern Connecticut.”

Plainfield has not had any public bus service for over 20 years. This new route will allow those in Plainfield to travel to locations within town and also connect them to Norwich, Groton, New London and all other communities served by SEAT.

“After not having any bus services since 1998, and years of working on this transit proposal, the town of Plainfield of Plainfield is happy to announce this cooperative effort, to return transportation options to Plainfield and it’s residents. We welcome the opportunity to provide positive transportation options to the residents of Plainfield and all of the connecting towns.” First Selectman Kevin M. Cunningham.
