Temporary Train Service Adjustments on the Hartford Line

4/09/2026

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is alerting customers of the upcoming train service adjustments effective Monday, April 21, 2026 through Friday, October 30, 2026 on the Hartford Line (HL).

Several weekday CTrail and Amtrak trains will be replaced by bus service between Hartford and Springfield, MA. Bus service will begin with CTrail train 4400 and continue through CTrail train 4407. Weekend train service will not be affected. View the schedule at hartfordline.com/fares-schedules.

Temporary busing is necessary to support several infrastructure improvements along the corridor being performed by Amtrak, including a track improvement project at the new Windsor Locks Station site. Planned work includes installing new interlockings, drainage improvements, and maintenance and safety upgrades at several rail grade crossings.

“These infrastructure projects are a vital step in modernizing the Hartford Line,” said Connecticut Department of Transportation Bureau Chief of Public Transportation Jeffrey Gonneville. “A new Windsor Locks station, upgraded track infrastructure, and safer crossings will deliver more reliable and accessible service for everyone who depends on this line. We thank the public for their patience as this work is completed.”

Train fares will be effective on the substitute buses. Passengers are required to purchase a CTrail or Amtrak ticket to board the substitute buses. Southbound bus departure times are earlier than regular train departure times at stations. Buses will stop at all stations listed below and passengers will be directed to the bus pick up and drop off location by signage on the platform:

  • Hartford
  • Windsor
  • Windsor Locks
  • Springfield, MA

Please note Amtrak 490 will be bused the entire route from New Haven Union Station to Springfield Union Station.

Passengers are encouraged to visit HartfordLine.com or Amtrak.com for the latest service information

Riders can also sign up to have alerts sent directly to their mobile phone or email accounts by signing up at HartfordLine.com/service-alerts. Don’t forget to review your preferences to ensure you receive the most up-to-date information for your travels. Preferences may need updating after each schedule change.
