Public Information Meetings on Proposed Flex Lane Along I-84 in Danbury

2/17/2026

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) will conduct two public information meetings concerning the proposed Flex Lane on I-84 in Danbury. The first meeting will be in-person on Thursday, March 5, 2026, at 5:30 p.m. at the St. Joseph Church Hall at 376 Main Street in Danbury. The second meeting will be held virtually on Zoom on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at 12:00 p.m.—to register, visit www.i84Danbury.com/FlexLane.

The public information meetings are being held to provide the public and local community with the opportunity to offer comments and ask questions regarding the proposed project. The in-person meeting will begin as an open house at 5:30 p.m., where individuals can view project-related materials and discuss any questions with the project team. A formal presentation will begin at 6:30 p.m. For more information and additional ways to provide comments and ask questions, visit www.i84Danbury.com/FlexLane.

In case of inclement weather, the in-person meeting will be rescheduled for Wednesday, March 11, 2026, at 5:30 p.m.

“The proposed Flex Lane is a targeted practical approach to addressing congestion, while improving safety and mobility on I-84 in Danbury by making better use of the existing roadway,” said Connecticut Department of Transportation Project Manager Kevin Burnham. “We look forward to sharing how this proven strategy works and hearing feedback from the community.”

The Flex Lane is an independent project resulting from the I-84 Danbury Planning and Environment Linkages (PEL) Study. The I-84 corridor between Interchanges 3 and 7 experiences significant congestion and limited mobility that impacts both local and regional travel. This project also includes improvements to southbound Route 7 near westbound I-84 at Exit 7 to help traffic flow more smoothly and improve overall corridor operations.

Right-of-way impacts associated with the proposed project are not anticipated.

Construction is anticipated to begin in summer 2028 based on the availability of funding and approval of permit(s). The estimated construction cost for this project is approximately $250 million. This project is anticipated to be undertaken with 90% federal funds and 10% state funds.

Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking study team members will be in attendance and participate at the in-person meeting. Additional language assistance may be requested by contacting the CTDOT Language Assistance Call Line at (860) 594-2109. Requests should be made at least five business days prior to the meeting.  Language assistance is provided at no cost to the public and efforts will be made to respond to timely requests for assistance. Non-English language closed captioning will be available on Zoom. The recording will also be posted following the meeting in CTDOT’s public meeting playlist at portal.ct.gov/ctdotVPIMarchive.
