Public Hearing on Rehabilitation Replacement of Cribari Memorial Bridge in Westport

2/18/2026

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) will conduct an in-person public hearing concerning the rehabilitation/replacement of Cribari Memorial Bridge (Bridge No. 01349) carrying Route 136 over Saugatuck River on Thursday, March 19, 2026, at the Westport Town Hall, Auditorium, located at 110 Myrtle Avenue at 6:00 pm.

The public hearing is being held to provide information and solicit feedback about the proposed project. This hearing will begin as an open house at 6:00 p.m. where individuals can discuss any questions for the CTDOT project staff. A formal presentation will begin at 7:00 p.m. The hearing will be broadcast live on Westport’s public access channel, Westport TV (wptv) on Channel 79

For instructions on accessing the meeting and ways to provide comments and ask questions, please visit portal.ct.gov/Cribari-Bridge.

“The purpose of this project is to address the structural and functional deficiencies of the existing bridge while accommodating safe vehicular, bicycle, pedestrian, and marine travel,” said Connecticut Department of Transportation Project Manager James Barrows. “We encourage the public to attend this meeting to share their feedback with the CTDOT project team to incorporate into the design.”

Right-of-way impacts associated with the proposed project include partial easements for construction access and laydown areas. No permanent right-of-way impacts are anticipated.

Construction is anticipated to begin in spring 2030 based on the availability of funding, acquisition of rights of way, and approval of permit(s). The exact cost will be determined based on scope of the project and selected alternative.

Individuals with hearing and/or speech disabilities may dial 711 for Telecommunications Relay Services (TRS). Individuals with limited internet access may also request that project information be mailed to them within one week by contacting James Barrows at James.Barrows@ct.gov or (860) 594-3192.

Language assistance may be requested by contacting the CTDOT Language Assistance Call Line (860) 594-2109. Requests should be made at least five business days prior to the meeting. Language assistance is provided at no cost to the public and efforts will be made to respond to timely requests for assistance.

Members of the public can submit comments and questions beginning February 17, 2026, until April 17, 2026. Please submit comments and questions here, (860) 594-2020, or
