The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is developing plans under State Project No. 0171-0535 to replace existing traffic control signal equipment in Andover, Berlin, East Windsor, Manchester, New Britain, Southington, Vernon, West Hartford, Wethersfield, Willington, and Wolcott.
The project involves the full replacement of the traffic signal equipment at seventeen intersections. At applicable locations, pedestrian control features (countdown pedestrian indications, accessible pushbuttons, sidewalk ramps) will be upgraded in an effort to improve accessibility and pedestrian safety. CTDOT will coordinate with the City/Town during the design phase. The following intersections are included:

- East Windsor Route 140 at Route 191 and Melrose Rd.
- ManchesterRoute 502 (Spencer St.) at Shopping Plaza Driveway and Shoprite Shopping Center Driveway
- New Britain Route 9 NB Ramps at Ellis St
- New Britain Route 9 NB Off-ramp at Columbus Blvd and Bosco Dr
- Southington Route 229 (West St.) at Curtis St
- Vernon S.R. 533 (Tunnel Rd) at 542 (Whitney T Ferguson III Rd) and Keynote Dr
- West Hartford Route 189 (Bloomfield Ave.) at Route 185 (Simsbury Rd.)
- Wethersfield Route 287 (Prospect St.) at Goff Rd. and Bittersweet Hill
- Wethersfield Route 287 (Prospect St.) at Ridge Rd.
- Wethersfield Route 287 (Prospect St.) at Thornbush Road
- Wethersfield Route 287 (Prospect St.) at Willow St
- Wethersfield Route 287 (Prospect St.) at Back Lane and Orchard Brook Dr.
- Willington Route 74 (Tolland Tpke.) at Old Farms Rd. and Jared Sparks Rd.
- Wolcott Route 69 (Wolcott Rd.) at Munson Rd. and Sunrise Rd.
- Wolcott Route 69 (Wolcott Rd.) at Route 322 (Center St.) and Beach Rd.
The present schedule indicates that the design will be completed in May of 2028, with construction anticipated to start in Spring of 2029, assuming acceptance of the project, availability of funding and receipt of any required right-of-way and environmental permits. This project will be undertaken with 20% federal and 80% state funds.
